October 24, 2022:
Following up here as I think this is an integral topic/feature for the Curio platform. And the recent soft-launch of Blur has resurfaced discussions re: NFT marketplaces. TLDR:
To be frank, Curio's current limitation to OpenSea-only data degrades the utility of the entire platform. An incomplete view of the market:
OpenSea represents roughly two-thirds of the NFT market, depending the metric you use. Although this has fluctuated over the last 12 months, I do not expect to see OpenSea retain 75%+ marketshare ever again. This presents a growing blindspot for Curio users--the visuals, orderbook, and analysis provided by Curio (as much as I love it) is incomplete. As an investor, I cannot make a complete decision with Curio alone. And I recognize the Curio team understands this. And there are costs associated with adding this data. However, data analysis tools are only as good as the data they are comprised from. Aggregators, liquidity pools, and more:
Some marketplaces are just that, marketplaces (e.g., OpenSea, x2y2, LooksRare). Newer to the scene are liquidity providers (SudoSwap, NFTx) and aggregator tools (Gem, Blur). My understanding is that liquidity providers that have custody of NFTs are their own marketplaces. However, Gem and Genie are aggregators granting users access to multiple marketplaces rolled into one. But these tools themselves aren't marketplaces (you cannot list an NFT for sale on Gem, but you can use Gem to list an NFT on OpenSea). The new tool, Blur, I believe serves as an Aggregator AND a Marketplace itself--which is unique. What about art-focused NFTs?
: When we consider 'art NFTs' as an additional segment of the NFT market, things get even messier. SuperRare, Foundation, ArtBlocks. These NFT domains represent a notable portion of the ethereum NFT market. Should they eventually be incorporated into Curio? This raises larger scope questions for Curio and where they are headed in 2023.
Does Curio want to be an analytics platform with built-in marketplace integration? A marketplace aggregator with supplemental analytics? Etc. Recommendations in order of priority (my opinion):
near-term:
incorporate LooksRare and x2y2 data into Curio analytics (not necessarily buy/sell integration)near-term:
incorporate liquidity pool data (SudoSwap, NFTx) into Curio analytics (not necessarily buy/sell integration)longer-term:
incorporate buy/sell functionality of marketplaces listed aboveSome data from Reservoir's dashboard on Dune below: https://dune.com/reservoir0x/nft-marketplace-overview

Sudo swap is becoming a big platform

I think we should also consider NFTX pool as well

I would actually recommend integrating with gem.xyz instead because they capture all sales/listing from OS, X2Y2, Looksrare and Sudoswap.

We've temporarily deprioritized this feature in favor of other work, but we'll pick this back up soon.
